PIETER NEVEJANS - principal Eb bass
Pieter was born on February 3th, 1980, in Ypres. As a child, he heard his sisters and brother exercise their music lessons, and wanted this too.
He studied music at the Academy for Music and Theater in Ypres, and at the age of 9 he started to play trumpet, with Luc Neirynck.
When he was 13 years old, he became one of the winners of the Young-Tenuto contest.
After 8 years of trumpet-playing, Pieter was ready for ‘the big stuff’. He studied the tuba one year in Ypres, and then went to the Leuven Lemmensinstituut. From 1999 till 2004 he studied tuba with Michel Tilkin and piano with Veerle Dieltiens.
After graduating with great distinction, Pieter went to Antwerp for one year of specialisation with Hendrik-Jan Renes (tuba of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra).
Since 2000, Pieter has played with Metropole Brass Band, Brass Band Midden Brabant until he joined Brass Band Buizingen in 2006.
In 2002 Pieter reached the final of the prestigious international Tenuto contest.
In February 2004 he gained the price of ‘Best Soloist’ on the Milton Keynes Entertainment Contest (UK), with Brassband Panta Rhei.
Pieter is a free lance tuba player, performing regulary with The Flemish Radio Orchestra, The Flemish Opera Orchestra, The National Orchestra of Belgium and Brass Ensemble Belgian Brass.
