HARMEN VANHOORNE - principal cornet

Harmen Vanhoorne started his music training at the Izegem music academy. He proceeded to the Lemmens institute in Leuven. He graduated with the highest distinction with mr. Léon Pétré and is completing his trumpet studies with mr. Leo Wouters.
From 1998 to 2004 Harmen was seven times winner of the musical tournaments of the music federation.
He reached the final of the Young Tenuto contest in 2002.
In 2004 he won First Prize in the Dexia Axion Classics and in 2005 he received an award in the Lions European Musical Competition.
In 2007 he won the 'Best European Cornet Solo Competition 2007' prize and during the SCABA contest he won the best intrumentalist prize W.E. Wimhurst Challenge Trophy.
In 2008 Harmen won the best cornet prize at the British Open Solo and Quartet Championships. In the final 'champion of champions' he was well-deserved second with his rendition of Tomlinson's Cornet Concerto.
In 2009 Harmen again won the best cornet prize at the British Open Solo and Quartet Championships.
Since 1994 Harmen has been the soprano cornet of the Royal Fanfare Band 'Vrede en Eendracht' of Kachtem (Izegem).
In 2003 he joined the ranks at Brass Band Buizingen and was appointed principal cornet in 2006.
Harmen received masterclasses from a.o. Mr. Macaluso, David Daws, David King, Peter Roberts, David Thornton, John Doyle, Mr. F. Cessarini, Mr. J. Lindemans, David King and Joseph Burgstaller.
As a free-lance trumpeter he regularly works with orchestras like the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Low Countries, Ars Lyrica and the Brussels Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2008 Harmen is a member of the Royal Military Band of the Belgian Guides.
