On the 24th and 25th March Brass Band Buizingen gave two exceptional concerts in the Cultural Centre of Halle, ‘t Vondel. These ‘jubilee’ concerts – on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Luc Vertommen’s direction of the band – were dubbed STARS IN BRASS.

On Saturday evening the extraordinary talents of three of the world’s acknowledged Euphonium stars were assembled - Steven Mead, David Childs and Glenn Van Looy each chose a substantial piece from their own repertoire to play accompanied by the band before joining together for a truly breathtaking finale.
Brass Band Buizingen, in addition to providing the accompaniments of course supplied their own concert programme with features on three themes; Traditional British, Swinging America and Surprising Norway. The world premiere of Composer-in-Residence Nigel Clarke’s latest piece for the band ‘When Worlds Collide‘ was also given.

On Sunday 25th, BBU welcomed a different STAR to the stage – Singer Jasper Steverlinck, leader of group ‘Arid’ and jury member of TV programme “The Voice of Flanders”. Along with Jasper the band performed several of his hits including The High Life, If you go, Seven Odd Years and Life on Mars.
The big surprise of the evening was the appearance of de Christophe Lequesne, winner of the TV show « My Name is Michael » who embodied Michael Jackson as though really there ... A conclusion of Billie Jean, brass band and stars delivered a far from ordinary programme in which all fans of music were able to find something exceptional.
