Tijdens het eerste feest van de culturele verdienste heeft Halle drie cultuurpartners gelauwerd als ‘cultureel ambassadeur’ van de stad Halle. Brassband Buizingen is een van de gelauwerden; daarnaast zijn ook Sofie Dumont (Lady Chef of the year 2009, bekend van het VT4-programma ‘Goe Gebakken’) en de Confrérie van de Vaantjesboer bedacht met deze titel. Brassband Buizingen is zeer vereerd deze prijs in ontvangst te mogen nemen en dankt de stad Halle voor deze waardering.

See and hear the World Premiere performance of Nigel Clarke’s ‘Earthrise’, as performed at the European Brass Band Championship in Linz, Austria in 2010. Under the direction of Luc Vertommen, the band chose to perform Nigel’s newly-created piece in the ‘own-choice’ section of the contest. The piece was devised and composed specifically for this occasion but has proven popular and successful elsewhere, having been used as both a set test piece and own-choice option in national contests throughout Europe since its premiere.

Because of a festive anniversary and the 20th birthday of the traditional Valentine concert Brass Band Buizingen and Luc Vertommen decided to do 'something completely different' in 2012. It'll be a 'late' Valentine concert during the weekend of 24 and 25 March with a double programme and a double surprise.

Op 15 december 2011 mochten Brassband Buizingen en Luc Vertommen in de kantoren van SABAM te Brussel de FUGATROFEE 2011 in ontvangst nemen. De voorzitter van de Unie van Belgische Componisten, Carl Verbraeken onverhandigde deze prestigieuze trofee aan BBU omwille van hun jarenlange inzet bij het spelen, opnemen en promoten van Belgische muziek voor blaasorkest.

On Thursday 21st July the students of the University of Salford (manchester, UK), gathered in the Lowry Theatre, Manchester, for the traditional Graduation Day awards ceremony. For the first time in the history of the institution a ‘non-English’ student had the honour of completing a Doctorat. Belgian Luc Vertommen had obtained, after three years of studies, the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance, this award presented alongside that of Dorothy Gates (American Composer) and Edwin Green (Jazz trumpeter).

On the 20th February, in Sydney (Australia), principal cornet of Brass Band Buizingen, Harmen Vanhoorne, won the prestigious title of Ern Keller Memorial International Soloist of the Year. Harmen was invited to compete in this unofficial ‘World Championship of Soloists’ thanks to his victory in the British Open Solo Competition the previous year. He had the honour of representing the continent of Europe in this 37th year of the contest.

The Brass Band Buizingen has the honour to be able to welcome Nigel Clarke as associate composer. The band has already worked with Nigel in 2009 during the creation and first performance of his Swift Severn's Flood at the WMC Kerkrade in 2009. The two parties thrilled thrilled with this new co-operation.
